There are moments when small islands become improbable cultural crossroads.

At the edge of the Atlantic, on the volcanic landscape of Pico Island, the boundaries between center and periphery dissolve, allowing global artistic conversations to emerge in places once considered distant from the major circuits of international performance. That transformation has increasingly defined the spirit of the Azores Fringe Festival — a festival that continues proving that contemporary art no longer belongs exclusively to metropolitan capitals, but can flourish powerfully in island territories shaped by imagination, openness, and cultural courage.

This year, that vision gains another remarkable chapter with the Portuguese premiere of Orlando Trip, the internationally acclaimed production by the Austrian company Wortwiege / Fox on Ice.

Peisajul muzical european s-a îmbogăţit la finele anului trecut cu ineditul LP Orlando Trip al duo-ului austriac Fox On Ice, format din scriitoarea, regizoarea și performera Anna Luca Poloni şi muzicianul și artistul video Christian Mair.

Încadrarea ca Pop-Rock al acestui album conceptual este pur formală, întrucât acesta se relevă ca un produs artistic cu totul ieşit din tipare, un must-listen care îşi extrage substanţa din literatură, spiritualitate, arte vizuale şi cele ale spectacolului deopotrivă.

Recently, I had the rare opportunity to experience a vibrant musical performance titled ‘Orlando Trip,’ presented by Austrian artist Anna Luca Poloni and her collaborator Christian Mair at the Barefoot Gallery Garden.

The event celebrated Austrian National Day and showcased their joint project, ‘Fox On Ice’, which delves into narratives of transformation through feminine and fluid perspectives. At the inter-creative crossroads of music, literature, film, and theatre, this dynamic duo passionately explores the complexities of identity and change.

Ihr „Orlando Trip“ hat Anna L. Krassnigg und Christian Mair schon ums halbe Mittelmeer geführt. Nun gibt es die „Cinematic Musical Show“ als Album.

Die Performance aus Musik, Film, Fotografie und Spoken Poetry erzählt in zeitgenössischen Lyrics (mit ein paar versteckten Originalzitaten) die Geschichte des jungen Adligen Orlando, der über drei Jahrhunderte in diversen Rollen und an den verschiedenen Orten lebt: Vom Hof Königin Elisabeths I. wird er Diplomat in Konstantinopel, wandelt sich zur Frau und wird im 20. Jahrhundert als Schriftstellerin berühmt.
